We Made It!!!

The honeymoon is officially over. Right now it is 4:44am in Los Angeles and both of us are awake due to some serious jet lag. The time difference between Athens and Los Angeles is 10 hours and it took us about 35 hours to fly home due to flight delays (I will explain in a second).

Athens was pretty fun. It is really more of a big sprawling city like Los Angeles so we felt right at home. There was a heat wave in Athens and the temperature was about 41 degrees Celcius which is over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Thankfully we were able to master the Athens metro system like pros and get to our air conditioned hotel with only minor pit stains and streams of sweat dripping down our faces. Our hotel had a roof top garden that had a fantastic view of the Acropolis.

Can I just stop and say how nice it is to be home and using my own computer where the internet connection is lightening fast and all the keys are in the right places.

Getting back to the States was a little problematic. Although I really can't complain because we've have such good luck traveling the past month that if anything was going to go wrong, now was a perfectly fine time to have it happen. As we were in the Athens airport, we passed by a bookstore with..... The Harry Potter book!!! Ever since it came out last week, we have been keeping our eyes out for any bookstore or shops that might carry it in English. I guess the Greek Islands aren't necessarily the most up to date on pop culture. Since we were looking at a very full day of traveling ahead of us, buying the book at this exact moment was fantastic since it really helped make the 11 hour flight from Athens to Newark fly by (no pun intended). Mike was such a gentleman and allowed me to read the book first. I was halfway through the book when I looked over at Mike, with his sad puppy dog eyes, and felt bad. As a compromise and since I was already halfway through the book, we took the book and ripped it completely in half. Those sitting around us must have thought that we were quite angry with J.K. Rowling. Now, Mike was able to read the first half of the book, while I finished the second half!

When we got to Newark, we had a connecting flight to Houston before getting to Los Angeles. Well, our flight out of Newark was delayed half an hour which pretty much meaned that we would miss our next flight to Los Angeles. Little did we know that the flight was actually going to be delayed for 6 hours!!! We got to hang out in the Newark airport from 4:50pm to 1:15am when our flight finally left. It was brutal, but thanks to Harry Potter, the time passed pretty quickly.

Anyways, we arrived in Los Angeles at 9am. Mike and I were confused about the whole marriage - carrying your wife over the threshold thing. Is that only for new houses? Well, he did it anyway. And we are safe and sound and married.
